Over the Plate
plate lingering and life tinkering
More happens than we know over the plate.  When our children were young,  "eat over your plate" was our constant refrain.  We still say it far more often than I would have predicted for a 15, 13, and 7 year old.  The training never stops.  But "over the plate" has come to mean much more than table manners for us.  Teachable moments, celebrations, life questions,  heart comforting all seem to linger over our plates.  At our plates, we remember what is important.  So, pull up a chair; the coffee's still hot.  Let's linger and tinker with what matters.

I have habits.  Deeply entrenched habits.  White on rice type of habits.  Husband rolls his eyes kind of habits.  Some I love.  Some I loathe.  I diligently hold my girls accountable for the formation of their habits, but what about my own?
